You're gettin' there! Keep up the good work. I have not heard of BB chev springs, but why not? It's just a matter of diameters, spring rate, installed height, retainer fitment...

I went to the track today. I have the new head on.
Here's a recap of my car:
225 - .040 over
MP 268 .460 lift cam
Valve head has 318 valves (1.78/1.50) with BB Chevy springs, shaved .100, ported and polished
Gm HEI module with electronic distributor
Offy intake with Edelbrock 500 (deleted the K&N filter)
Clifford headers with 2" dual exhaust
Factory 4 speed with McLeod 10" clutch
Ford 8.8 Explorer rear (3.73 trac-loc), 225 14/70 tires in back.

My best time was 15.75 @ 87 MPH.

I know I can go faster with some fiddling. Now the fun begins. I started at 8* initial and ran a 16.2. I bumped it to 10* and ran the 15.7. I went to 12* and ran a 15.8. I haven't put a dial back timing light on it yet, but I was told the mechanical advance is 20*. The carb is two stages lean (8%). I don't know if the bigger valves are enough to go with a richer set up.

Any thoughts/advice is appriciated.
Thanks again for this website!

Sounds like very good progress - congrats! Time to do some jet/rod changes. I found that with my Edel 600 and 500 carbs, they were fastest with pretty close to the stock jets/rods.
