Well, I struck out on getting personal insight on installing the large glass. Let's try this.

Has anyone replaced door glass in a Duster or Dart Sport and can give me first-hand tips on adjusting it properly? Three mounting studs and two lift stops are attached directly through the glass. Seemingly, the three studs are there to affect front-to-back spacing as well as getting the glass to stand vertically plumb. The vertical regulator rod runs through a horizontal plate that has two adjusting nuts that seem to affect how the glass "tips" in or out at the top. Of course, underneath the plastic door top trim is a metal plate running the full length of the door. It has three mounting bolts and two adjustable sliders with felt surfaces that apply tension to the inside face of the glass, seemingly to press it against the exterior rubber window sweep. Too much pressure there makes the glass hard to roll up and causes the outer door skin to flex when the window changes direction from up to down and the rubber sweep "flips" over. Too little pressure there and it doesn't seal off the space between sweep and glass.

Too many things to adjust. Is there a standard procedure to follow (do this, then that)?

Jerry

Your best bet is probably the factory service manual. I have one for '62 but it's unlikely to be of much help on a '74.

I don't know how you did it, but you beat Dan to the punch. I was waiting for him to say something about the FSM. I know, I know....

It's just hard for me to justify spending the $80 - $100 bucks (I guess) on the manual, when we are soooo close to finishing the car. There are so very few questions remaining to be answered. I need to spend the money on wheels and tires, instead.

Anyone else??

Well you have to get up early to get ahead of Dan! Perhaps someone has a manual and wouldn't mind copying the pertinent section and sending to to you. You could also try your local public library; if they don't have it they might be able to borrow it from another library.
