ok i want to use a bbd as a carb but i want to use an open element air cleaner assembly.

what other carb fits the stock 2 bbl intake (point me to an adapter if needed) so i can use an aftermarket filter assembly.

Why? They're not better, they're worse.

summit has the one you are looking for, just measure the diameter of the BBD. go to summitracing.com and do a search for air filter.

i don't have a bbd here or i'd cut and paste a link. anyway, hope that helps.

Buy one that fits a 318 two barrel. It i sthe same diameter as the slant six BBD two barrel. Just about every aftermarket two barrel air cleaner I have ever seen will fit the BBD neck. These should be readily available at any auto parts store for less than $20.

I use an Edelbrock Pro-Flo from Summit Racing. It fits the BBD and stock slantsix element and clears the hood on my 65...a big deal for early A Super Six applications.

Mr. Gasket also makes an adapter so that you can use any of the larger throat air cleaners on the smaller throat carbs (or vice-versa if you wanted to for some reason). It does add about an inch of height.

Or if you REALLY couldn't find a two barrel air cleaner you could make an adapter out of plywood. It wouldn't add any height.

Wood? Plastic or some sort of composite maybe... wood would be a bad idea as it might ignite under backfire.

I just purchased a Mr. Gasket open air cleaner assemble from Summit racing. The air cleaner needs to be 2 5/8 of an inch. This air cleaner came with an adapter to fit the carb. It is crome and 10 inch diameter like the stock element it had before. The lid is just chrome has no markings of any kind. Just my two cents worth.

Don´t know why open element are worse, since I´m using one my gas milleage is a bit bitter and my mix is much rich, less gas I need to use.

The open elements are worse for power.

They pull in all the hot air around the engine, while a tube (and even better a tube with extended snorkle) will pull in air from a colder location.

Colder less dense air has more O2 to burn, thus more power.
