My linkage is just one rod that goes from the carb to the kickdown lever.
Nice custom work, but I don't like the result. That kind of setup is a fairly serious potential safety hazard, which is why the factory quit using solid/direct kickdown linkages after '67 and went to the type that has a slot in the system such that with the kickdown linkage in "full kickdown" position, the throttle is still free to close. (With a direct linkage, anything internal or external that happens to jam the kickdown linkage also jams the throttle open).

ok, i'll give you that Dan, but some of the "newer" cable setups could potentially produce the same result if the cable binds or kickdown lever is jammed too.

Anyways, the simple solution even for a one-piece rod like mine is to add a slotted area, perhaps cut from a spare linkage and welded on to the one piece deal.

My simple soulution includes finishing my stick shift swap

Here's the pictures of my kickdown, if it worked right.

And as for my shift points, like I stated earlier, have been checked by the transmission shop, which is highly regarded in my area.

Well, I gotta hand it to you, that's pretty clever. I don't see any obvious safety problems, and it looks like it retains the advantage of topside adjustment.

I appreciate it Dan. I ran into trouble with the 2 bbl rod because it was too short to push the lever on the trans all the way back. I don't know if this has something to do with the length of the lever or not. Mine is the original one bbl lever that came on the trans.

So, i tried the one bbl rod and it seemed to work. I did have to lengthen the slot on the kickdown where it adjusts, but that was the only mod.

It's worked so far and the trans shop gave it the ok so until my tranny blows up, I'll stick with it.

Hope this helps a few people.
