I recently purchased a 64 Valiant Signet, 225, 4-speed. The car is mostly original, but just about worn out. I've disassenbled it,getting it ready for the media blaster and a complete restoration with some minor engine mods. My question is how rare is this combination. I've only seen one other like it.

Sounds like a good basis for a neat project. Certainly the 4-speed was the least-chosen transmission option on slant-6 A-bodies for 1964-1965, the only two years it was offered until 1975. Hard numbers are difficult to get and not particularly reliable, but people tended to order the 4-speed in Signets, Barracudas and Dart GTs more often than they did in sedans and station wagons (though there's a '64 Dart w/factory 225 and 4spd on eBay at the moment).

According to my book 37736 2dr ht and 7636 2dr conv. I don't know how accurate those numbers are, but they should be in the ballpark. That is total model production there isn't any breakdown for engine and trans. If it isn't terrible rusted it sounds like the start of a good project car.

There is a numbers matching 1972 Duster Twister a collector has in Portland it's a 225 A-833 optioned car( not sure how that one was picked out of the dealers list)...pretty nice combination, but like dan said most were slant six auto or slant six 3 on the tree optioned...

Great question, since in '72 there wasn't a bellhousing in the North American production parts system to mate a 225 to an A833, nor was 225 + 4spd a Federally emissions-certified powerteam for '72. I can think of a few ways this combo could've been specially built in a Chrysler production facility, and a few ways this car's "matching" numbers could've been faked.

Yeah...that "numbers matching" term is much abused. I'd want to see a good, clear photo of his car's fender tag(s).
