Hi all,

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee that I want to get a few more cheap miles out of. The heater core is leaking a bit, and I really don't want to replace it. Any recommendations on a radiator stop leak product that might actually work?

In my experience anything that will stop a lean in the heater core is likely to also stop up the passages and render the heater inoperative. Sometimes it works, but a high percentage of the time it doesn't.

The only stop-leak I've ever used that's managed to stop leaks and not stop flow has been BARR's Stop Leak..........

I agree that Barr's (brown goo in a bottle) is the best of the worst. It's the only thing I've ever seen actually work to any degree.

But hey, you're in California, and summer's coming up - who needs a heater? Just loop the hose and wear extra socks

Another vote for Bars-leak. Years ago my Mom had an 84 Cutlass Cierra that blew a head gasket (or cracked o head or block), and was having total loss of the coolant into the combustion chamber (60 foot long 20 foot high white cloud coming out the back while driving. Bars leak fixed the problem and the car drove for several more years with no overheating or cooling problems.

Im OK with Barrs leak,,,its crude but effective. I much prefer a product called Alumaseal . It doesnt make a mess of your coolant.....and does less harm to water pumps. I use about a teaspoon of it to seal most emergencies.....where Barrsleak always seems to take 2 bottles and produces an environmental disaster.

I drove from Nevada City CA 1000 miles home with a head cracked in 2 pieces without incident after using Alumaseel.....dudes at the machine shop pretty much crapt when they saw it.
