Yep. "eBay syndrome", where people will bid an item on eBay much higher than they can just buy it outright. I've watched a few Offy 5041 twin 1bbl intakes go by for well over a hundred dollars more than they can be had outright.

And did anyone see the joker who had a $500 "buy it now" price on what he claimed was the last P4120243 cam in the world?

Well I have to say, that ebay has been my undoing as of late. While many good deals are there to be had, you really need to know what you're willing to pay. As SlantSixDan said, there are many items going for more than they are new (although an offy 5041 went this week for $300 with 2 holley 1920s and matching *chrome* air cleaners which double nicely as booger checkers at the gas station) but plenty of deals as well.

My biggest gripe is fools that big the price way up, especially against themselves! I just had the anguish of buying a low-mileage slant 6 engine and tranny on ebay. The opening bid was only $100, and on the 2nd day, two idiots started a bidding war. One guy had signed up on ebay 2 days earlier and the other had defaulted on his last auction for a parts car. One of these bung holes ran the damn thing up to $350 with successive bids AGAINST HIMSELF with nobody else bidding up against him. Was this the last 5 mins? No! It was 4 days to go. We just need to kick these amateurs off ebay so I dont end up paying too much for my stuff! (coincidentally I did end up paying more than I wanted to, $450 for the engine and trans).

On the flip side, I have scored several carbs and mirrors and other little parts for pretty cheap. I wish I had the junkyards some of you do here in Ohio cause I'm sure not finding super six-setups-a-plenty here! But being a democracy, if ya think the price is too high, don't bid. I cried a week ago as a brand new mopar NOS tail light lens came and went for $112 on ebay (started at 40, I put my max as $80) as I have spent the better part of 3 months trying to find one for my 62. I guess the search will just have to continue.

Why don't some of you nice junkyard roamers put together a wish list for the rest of us to save us from ebay =)

BTW ricki, how you liking that nice weather in St. Louis? Ain't it *just* like the bay area?

Its pretty cold here. Lucky for me I work from home now, so I have a heater under my desk with my feet planted firmly on top of it (pedal to the metal!). I have the dart with me and have put it to storage. I guess I'll let it sleep for a couple of months. On the way out to the storage place (about 3 miles) I had 2 people ask to buy it off me, but my lips were frozen together so I just shook my head

I'll get out to some junkyards here when things warm up. One problem I had in LA was the distance and time it took to do anything. I just couldnt be bothered with the traffic etc and so I would use ebay more for parts (the extra cost was worth it compared to how much time/frustration it took for me to get anywhere). St Louis is a much more manageable size for me.

Sorry to say man you are in for a long run if you think its cold here this week, been pretty warm as of late. I would be happy to wonder some of the yards with you when the weather changes, FYI salvage yard over by gateway race track, come early, come often things move quickly. I'm about 15 miles NE of downtown and there are a few other yards off the beaten path that still have some older cars around but most things end up over at the gateway yard. Don't know if you have been on the look out for others but there is a mopar email list stlmopars.com. Hopefully by the time the weather changes I will have all the kinks worked out and have my slanted e-body driver road-ready.
