Hi Again From down under, I would like to explain the way the AussieSpeed plenum heater was designed to work. Every body has a different idea when it comes to designing a product. When i was asked about pre heating the plenum i had to come up with a simple way of making it work for who ever wanted to fit 1. The wall thickness is around 4mm it is designed to have 4 simple tack welds in each corner & plumbed to get water from the engine block before the thermostat to warm the box then transfer the heat to the base of the manifold. I think most people would agree it is easier to heat 2 thin pieces of aluminum around around 4mm each rather than 1 piece 9mm thick.If the heater is big & thick it would take a lot more time to heat the heater before the heat could be transferred to the base of the manifold . It was designed small & thin on the bottom as we are trying to heat the manifold under the carb not get enough hot water to take a bath. The other worry was water leaks, corrosion & nothing would be worse than a manifold that gave you instant water injection & filled the manifold then the cylinders of a high performance engine with water. To try to cut out the bottom out of the box to epoxy it to the base of the manifold i think could be dangerous when you consider the pressure of some cooling systems .By setting up a heater tap to stop flow once the engine is at operating temp is a win win situation. I no not every 1 will agree but this is the principle behind the DE ICER. I will get some pics of how it was designed to fit to the bottom of the manifold. also the manifold is not dead flat on the bottom & believe sealing would have been a real pain in the butt.. It looks like there might be a clearance issue with longer dual-circuit brake master cylinders. Rob, could we get some photos, maybe with a ruler for scale, of the firewall/master cylinder/intake area? |

Yep. That's what kept me from getting one (I've got PB that I don't intend to give up).
