Well Mark, what's that converter flash at? Continental makes a pretty good unit and they're usually pretty efficient as well so you'll get nothing there. The 2.74 gear set MIGHT get you something in the lights but will chop 60' times but it sounds like the car's making good forward progress with both times. Is it in it's very best state of tune right now..jetting/timing/lash/etc? Have you played with the shift loops much? Sometimes, depending on the car and engine combination, that can make as .1+ difference. It's always the little things...wb

Looking back at everybody's ideas how about this plan.
1. Cool high air density day
2. Wide band AFR Sensor with a gauge, you don't need a computer to just read the ARF but you do need a fitting in the collector. This could give you valuable information to adjust the carb. Sometimes there are flat spots that can be cured variious ways. Mount the gauge so you can see it without being distracted.
3. Put in the 5.13 gear if you just want to do 1/8 mile. That will give you the same breakaway as a 2.74 low with a 4.56 with out the big RPM drops when you shift.
4. Put on an electric water pump drive, you might as well take the alternator off the car, charge up the battery and get ready to make your bonzi run.

This might not get you into the 7s but should bring you closer. I will send you a PM to put you in touch with Bernie Kuschel, he ran a 13.22 with his Lancer street car with an engine quite similar to what you have and much more weight.

Get one of the moroso universal electric water pump units, and run it on a switch. I think this is the same setup Ron Parker uses.

Although you can rig up a small electric water pump to work, it takes a lot of special fittings to use it with a stock type radiator. What most people do is drive the stock water pump with a small electric motor and a gilmer belt like the Moroso kit that was mentioned. The brackets that come with it are usually for a chevy but you can adapt them quite easily, you might have to fabricate a piece or two. You can actually get by driving a limited amount on the street with such a set up, otherwise you can remove the stock water pump pulley when you get to the track and substitute the plactic gilmer pulley that comes with the kit. This is hard to do on an early A body with a stock radiator due to the limited clearance between the radiator and the pulley, if I ever want to do this on my car I have to drain the radiator an pull it up to get at the pulley, hopefully your aluminum radiator has more clearance. After you take off the water pump pulley you need a different length fan belt to drive the alternator, that's why I suggested taking it off to save 12# or so.

You might also consider the Davies-Craig electric water pump here

As for the alturnator, I have a field cut-off switch so I can turn-off the magnet load inside the unit, when making a pass. I switch it back on and re-charge as I come back on the return road.

I fought my car looking for any improvment for a year. I tried 3:91 and 5:13 gears, taller & shorter tires, 350 holley on an adapter, different length header collectors, etc. It ran within a few hundredths no mater what. I ran a five blade fan from a V/8 Aspen. When I removed the fan, installed an electric fan and a Moroso water pump drive (some modification required) my car dropped 5 tenths and gained 3mph. These times are for the 1/4 mile. When I poured in C12 race fuel it was 1.5 tenths quicker yet. I don't know what it will do for your car but a couple of hundred dollars should cover it.

My cutout is a micro switch on the carb that opens the field circuit, at wide open throttle. All automatic, don't even have to think about it.
