If you're not supplying the ECU with a AF signal, try this:

Borrow another 12v battery and run the LC-1 off the other battery totally disconnected from the car's electrical system (not even connected to the alternator)

My Inovate LC -1 is acting up once again. It is throwing error 8 codes again. Gun pilot, it looks like your set is only about $100 more than a new sensor for the LC-1 which the folks at Inovate are saying I need.

How is yours simplified over mine? CAn you describe the primary difference between the two systems. Is there an analogue output from the MTX-1 to hook into your MS II? In my book simple is usually better.

SAm
Yes, it has two outputs like the LC-1 does, one is programmed as wideband and the other as narrow. I connected the wideband to MS, narrow unused. Other than that, there are three wires to hook up: 12v+, ground, and a headlight dimming signal wire. I just grounded the headlight wire per the directions as I'm not using it.

So there's no little button to wire, no blinkin LED. The gauge does all that. Calibration is simplified: Cycle the power for 20 seconds with no sensor attached. Attach sensor outside the exhaust, cycle power for 30 seconds. Install sensor in exhaust, connect, ready to run.

I'm sorry you are having those troubles with the LC-1. I did get good service out of mine. I read online about a problem with them getting water inside due to faulty seals.

65 Dartman I apologize for highjacking your thread. I hope the discussion proves to be useful.

I went out and purchased a pair of 1000mfd capacitors from RS, and now have a question:

Which way should the arrows be oriented. Should they point towards ground or source?

Sam

No problem! Interesting discussion although some of it is over my head - but willing to learn. I have made up my mind to buy the AEM 30-4100 based on Lou's recommendation and an old article in Mopar Action.

I think the arrows are negative (ground)

Inside the arrows there should be some "-" signs....

Sorry to belabor the point: They point " toward" ground? I know this seems logical, but diodes are just the opposite, I think.

There's more then one kind of diode and more then one way to apply them, that's a loaded question for another thread.

For the capacitor - between the arrows you should see either a minus or a plus sign. The arrow will point to the respective lead. Look at the radioshack pic on the link I put in the post - on that the minus or negative lead is on the left and goes to ground, the other lead to +12v. Put it as close to the LC-1 positive power wire as possible.

Thanks much Pierre, The caps I purchased look exactly like the ones in your link, except they are 50 volts. I don't know why I did not interpret the dashes as a minus sign. But they are there. When I glanced at them they just looked like small rectangles to me. And I thought, uh-oh, better get a little more clarity here. Thanks again.

What I was remembering about the diodes is the way they look in circuit diagrams. I used to try to make electronic circuits for my model railroad. I never really understood the principles behind what I was doing. I just followed directions. But, ready made stuff has gotten so cheap I no longer dabble in that at all.
