I guess you have had plenty of advice with pictures, but here is how I do it.
Open the picture, and then use the snipping tool to copy the picture.
Save the snip and then upload it to the board.
This down resolution save is usually small enough to post.

I uploaded some photos today to .org that were 123 kb and they went just fine
