74 Scamp 2 door. I bought new windshield and rear window gaskets and had them professionally installed back in July. The guy told me there is a 50/50 chance they will leak and just call him and he would fix it. Well I finally got the wheels on the ground and pushed it outside to give her a wash. Well, they leak. On the front I have water in the glove compartment and on the drivers side carpet. On the rear it's leaking on the lower rear corners. I'm doing extensive work on this car and I have replaced the widshield wiper gaskets so I think they are sealing. The guy is coming out tomorrow to add sealant. I havn't installed the trim around the windows yet. Could the trim clips be leaking? Also there are breather holes, I'm guessing that's what they are, below the windshield gasket. Could they be leaking also? One other question, could I be getting water in through the fresh air vent in the body in front of the windshield?

Thanks

Thanks.

Hmmm... sounds like your professional installer did not do a very profesional job. He was supposed to install the sealant before the windshield.
Yea, I know the feeling. I had the rear window in my '75 Valiant "professionally installed" too. The idiots charged me $50 for a 15 minute job and it leaked all over. The reason I took the window out in the first place was because it leaked and I wanted to clean out all the goop and old sealer and fix any rust.

Those holes below the windshield are drain holes. They let the water run into the plenum chamber. Be sure those holes are open. There are some special instructions for sealant placement on those windshields. It's either in the service manual or a technical service bulletin I saw once upon a time.

Yes, water can leak past the screws that hold on some of the trim clips. The factory had some kind of sealant on the screw threads before installation. I don't know what it is. Most of those trim clips fasten over a welded on nail-head peg. Where the pegs are missing or broken, then the clip gets held on with a screw.

Thanks for the response. Any idea where I can get the service bulletins and/or instructions for the installation?

Thanks

I talked to the "pro" who installed it and he is ordering some stuff he calls "liquid butyl" to fix the leaks. He said it's guaranteed to work. He says it comes in a caulking tube.

I was there when he installed it and he told me at the time there was a good chance it would leak. He said he's done these cars many times. He also seemed very experienced and was very careful doing the install. Very friendly and came to my house. I've got a few days before he gets the stuff so I'm wondering if he should remove the windows and start over or just squeeze the stuff under the gaskets all the way around. Hmmm? The front window is a brand new Chyrsler windshield he got for me. The rear is OE. The gaskets are brand new. But I'm worried the rear may be pretty brittle due to age.
