hello sl6 sages- have a question on clutches which i never got a good clear answer on. having done a few clutch replacements in dodges fords and chevrolets, i notice that dodges only seem to use the borg and beck clutch with the 3 fingers on the pressure plate. chevy and fords seem to use the so called diaphragm ttype clutchwith many thin fingers on the pressure plate. what is the difference in engineering and performance. the diaphragm seems to be softer in the pedal and doesnt hold as tight- im guessing it doesnt last as long too. never saw one in a dodge. tell me what you know. an old hudson hornet racer from 51 told me the borg and beck is designed for the hard use of racing and trucking. thanks for the info in advance. regards paladin

You have the right information.
The Borg & Beck "3 finger" clutch tends to have better holding power, mostly because these have lever weights that apply more pressure as RPMs increase.

The diaphram type has lighter spring pressure and makes for a softer peddle but will slip sooner.

McLeod makes a high performance clutch set up for the slant six. It is a 10" diaphram set up. I have one in my "mild" built '64 Dart 4 speed. I posted my info here. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9994
I know Doc has WAY more experience than me, but he doesn't race clutches anymore. I haven't had any slippage problems and was told the set up is good for 300 HP.
