If anyone is familiar with this engine please let me know.

A while back I had a bearing go on my '66 225.

I want to rebuild that engine, but needed something to put in my car untill it was done.

In any case, my Bro-in-Law found me a new rebuilt crate Penstar 225 which was ordered as a replacement for a Forklift. The owner had it sitting around for quite awhile, then retired and sold his business. The owner was selling everything and moving to Nevada, so I was able to get it for a low price.

So what do I need to do to turn it into a car engine? Anyone know? I'm guessing, it would have a different cam, possibly low compression head, and maybe low compression pistions, and maybe setup up for propane. Anyone ever see any specs on one of these engines, It's painted a light yellow, and has a plate on the side, with the Mopar Penstar, and saying it's a Chrysler Industrial Engine and that it is a 225.

If the compression raitio is different for propane use, it will have HIGHER compression than a gasoline engine, but I doubt they made any compression changes for propane. Check the crankshaft flange size since you have a 1966 car and the size was changed in 1967 or so.

If you are coming to Minnesota soon, I have a 225 industrial engine for sale from a combine, small flange crank like you need. Runs like a clock. Just swap the oil pan and pickup and drop it in the car.
These combine engines usually have very low hours on them.

Thanks for the info on the flange, I remember something like that years ago.

I had a '63 Valiant with a 170 and auto. The engine eventually was worn to the point the pistons were swapping holes. I wanted to put a 225 in it, and was buying a factory rebuilt shortblock. I found out I needed a 225 for the core, so I did a marathon 3 engine swap to end up with a 225 core on the floor, and the 170 in another car that was going to be sold for surplus.

The swap was with a Dodge U.S. Airforce crewcab flight line pickup (with a big 4 speed). Myself and a couple of buddys did it at night in a repair shop, and it was a nightmare, as it went on all night with swaps of parts between engines to end up with two running vehicles. One of the problems was there was a diferent flange on the pickup, and the flywheel wouldn't fit the 170 which had an auto, so we swaped the cranks, what a mess. Fortunately the new 225 worked with the old flex plate.
