Need a definate answer, not guesses. Does anyone make a centrifical/vacumm advance distributer for the 3.9 V-6 engine? Or can a small block V-8 distributer, be converted for V-6 use, by installing a 6 cyl reluctor/pickup, and using the 6 cyl cap and V-8 rotor? As far as I know all 3.9 V-6 engines used fixed timing distributers, with computer timing control. I need to be able to use non computer ign timing, for a street vehicle. Thanks.

...are you building another sickmobile, Charlie??

I hope it's the twin-turbo V6 Duster of my dreams! ;)

D/W

P. S. - How about a /6 reluctor mounted on a 318 'stributor... Wouldn't that work?

No, I haven't even had time to work on my "low buck project". One of my customers got a 87 Dakota, for real cheap. But it has had some redneck work done on it. All the emission stuff has been removed, the feed back carb is trashed, and the wiring is butchered, making the computer inoperative (even if it's not trashed). I was wondering about the dist. mod. I don't know if the relucter/pickup will fit. I do know the shaft is a different dia, where the rotor goes, and that the v-6 cap will fit on the v-8 dist, but the locating notch would have to be moved to allow the clamps to line up. Then I would have to worry about indexing the rotor and cap.

All Canadian 3.9 v6 are TBI injected and have a puter controlled spark advanceas far as I have ever seen. (Jeeze I even have one in the fleet. I hate it).

As Sandy says, there's no such animal as you're seeking. But, your conversion idea would work. Swap a \6 reluctor and cap onto an ordinary small block V8 distributor, check to make sure the phasing's sound, and you should be all set to go.

Actually there is. I just looked at a MP parts book this morning.
Vacuum advance dist for 3.9 V-6 engine... P4529401
Electronic conversion kit w/vacuum advance....P4529402

Problem is, just like the slant parts, they are discontinued. I need to check around, to see if anyone has one on the shelf.

Hey, lookit there, you found what you need.

'Course, it'll probably come with the single lightweight advance spring for the drag race "All advance, all the time" curve (useless on the street).

Yeah, I found the part number. Now I need to find the part. I can tinker with the springs, if I find a distributor.

PS, I just got back from town, with a Sun distributor machine in the back of my truck.

Had put the word out a couple of weeks ago, with parts store outside sales people, that I was looking for one, "cheep". Got a call this morning, informing me of one. Called the shop that had it, and got the deal of the week. "If you want it, come and get it out of my way".

Ooooh! That *IS* a deal! Definitely a bargain, even at 10x the price. Finding a distributor machine and someone who knows how to use it, at the same time, is getting to be very hard.

Partsvoice doesn't show any of those MP 3.9 distributors or kits. You may wind up making your own after all. But, go to your nearest friendly Mopar parts counter and see if the guy will "run a locate" on those numbers for you.

Isn't the 3.9 an "odd fire" design. So you wouldn't be able to use any \6 distributor parts because it is an "even fire" design.

It is an even fire engine. I wouldn't be using any slant parts. I would be combineing parts from a 318 dist, and a 3.9 v-6 dist.

So far no luck in finding a MP distributor.
Does anyone have the contact info for Bill Rolick. He is the fellow selling all those MP and NOS slant six distributers on E-bay.
