 Post subject: Question on carb.
PostPosted: Mon May 30, 2005 1:47 pm
i have a 1966 stock slant six with the old one barrel carb, and oil bath air filter. Can a 2 barrel carb be put on this with very little or no modification. I just need to get it running for now and I will soon do a better job for performance, show and so on. Thank you.

A lot depends on what this engine is in. If you have an oil bath air cleaner in a passenger car, that's a very uncommonly-seen setup.

A 2bbl carb won't bolt to the 1bbl manifold. You can get an adaptor to make it bolt on (very counterproductive), but that only solves the bolt-on problem; the throttle and auto trans kickdown linkage won't hook up or work correctly. Neither will the choke. The 1bbl air cleaner won't fit on the 2bbl carb.

What kind of vehicle do you have, and what's the hurry to get a 2bbl on there "any ol' way" now, and do it up right later?
