I'm getting a loud squeel occasionally at idle when the AC is on. I have a new idler pully, reman compressor but stock original AC clutch (might be the problem), reman power steering pump and reman alternator. It sounds like the power steering when the belt is a little loose. But I can't tell where it's coming from. Also the AC belt up top wobbles up and down quite a bit with the AC on. How tight should the belts be? I think I have them set about right. Maybe a little on the tight side. Not too tight though. Also I believe these twin piston compressors run a little unevenly don't they causing a bit of wobble on the belt? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Sounds like belt squeel. I'd tension all the belts first to see if it goes away. You shouldn't get a lot of deflection from the belts when you push down on them, if you do they need tightened. Actually seeing a bump in the belt probably means it needs tensioned or replaced, sounds like it sat in one position for awhile and has a permanent pulley impression. |

The belt setup with the V2 compressor on the Slant-6 is not the best engineered in the world; you really need to reef on the idler pulley to get the belt good and tight. Some slant-6 installations had a belt-top idler pulley located just to the passenger side of the compressor to increase belt wrap on the compressor clutch; see if you can find one of those. Make sure not to use a small-diameter V8 clutch on your slant-6 application; you really need to have the large-diameter unit. I like These '76-up style units with the inertia ring (and you can't beat the price...!) Also make sure to use only name-brand, top-quality belts. Gates, Goodyear or Dayco. |

Does that clutch on e-bay use a v-belt? I can't tell from the picture. Mine is the stock factory 1974 type. Are the '76 and up different? And will it be a direct bolt on? Also how much deflection should I get when I press on the belt? Thanks. |

Yep they use a vee-belt. Serpentines were introduced long after the V2's demise. |

Yes, yes, and yes.Quote: Also how much deflection should I get when I press on the belt?
Depends where you press on it!
