Hey folks, I went to the JY, got a newly rebuilt Holley 2bbl off a 318 New Yorker, I mean this thing is still shiny only dirty around base. Question is: What do you use on your 2bbl super sixes? Right now I have a CarterBBD, good carb, runs good, happy with it. Just want to know if anyone would switch from a BBD to a Holley. What do you think?

I personally dislike the 2280. I think there are people who've made them work. I have to confess I really like some of the later ('66-'68) Bendix-Stromberg 2bbls used on Chrysler products.

If it runs good, don't change it!!!!!The Carter BBD is a decent carb. I've heard mixed results (most not in the good about the 2280)....
I have yet to run a 2280 myself though, (Carter BBD ran good, then decided to play with a 2300 and adaptor...).

Make sure to get a book so you know what you have to play with, if it has reverse idle screws, you'll have plenty of head scratching.

Dennis?

yup, right on the money. I just finished my 2300 head-scratching process and it´s been short but intense and ball-breaking

Bsically try to get a newer 2300 (they have more staged emulsion tubes) but not so newer that you'll have to deal with reverse idle screws. Most likely, the idle circuit would be so rich that you'll have to drill some small holes (like 1/16".. 3/32".. 7/64") one on each butterfly. (if you close both needles and the car keeps idling like mine... I've read that when the dialing is good, closing all the way down one needle has to kill the car)

I just came from a trip and road tested it... It was like   plenty of power, I'm cruising @100-110 mph and I have like less that 2/3 of the gas pedal pressed.... 10" Hg reading, so power valvle was completely out... (I use a 8.5 power valvle) and plug reading was acceptable (I have to lean out a bit the whole range... was dark tan-brown... like if it would benefit from going at least 2 #'s back on the main fuel jets.) Not only kept up with ricers, she crushed ricers and I kept up with nice cars such as BMW's and peppy VW's like the W8 passat and such cars... I gotta tell you, they were amazed of having my old lady biting their asses...

Dennis?

heheheh... the worse part is that we bug him in even knowing that he's right  the more grinding part of the dialing in process (wich was a long process of trial-error but squeezed into little amount of time cuz I needed the car badly) was Dennis and SSD imaginary voices on my head "we told you to get a BBD... Holley SUKCS... ho-ho-ho"
