ive heard that around 80' chrysler switched to the hyraulic lifters..etc. i have a mystery engine that's from 67'-mid70's and i want to put in a custom solid grind from comp cams. did chrysler only put in the hydraulic cams in around 80' or were there some in before that in earlier years? thanks |

There was a small-scale production test of hydraulic-cam slant-6s in the 1978 model year, then no more until 1981, when all slant-6s went hydraulic. So, all 1960-1977 slants are solid, the vast majority of 1978s, all 1979s and all 1980s are solid. A few 1978s and all '81-up are hydraulic. |

Easiest way is remove valve cover - if rockers have adjustment screws its solid if not then hydraulic. |

soo i took the valve cover off and sure enough adjustable lifters..so i have to assume the engine is pre 1980 right ? |
