I took apart the heater assembly in my 64 Dart today, in order to remove my leaky heater core. I successfully removed it and ordered a replacement from Modine. While working on this, however, I discovered that my blower motor has had it as well. I went to NAPA, and they pulled a cross-reference up for the number 2485479, which was one of a few stamped on the body of the motor. NAPA's replacement is BK6551063, which I ordered. You can see it here. Can anyone tell me for sure if this is the correct replacement? I did a search on this site to try to get some info, and found comments by some users that called into question NAPA's ability to cross-reference blower motors.

Assuming that I did order the correct motor, how the heck do you remove the factory one? It looks like I'll definitely have to make some minor modifications to the box, drilling out rivets and so forth. Any help from you guys that have done this before?

By the way, the R & R instructions in my Chilton's manual were completely different from what I see under my dash. Luckily, the process was pretty straightforward once I started taking things apart. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks in advance.

Frank

Believe you actually need a BK (Balkamp) 6551056. The '1063 looks close enough that you could probably make it work, but why put yourself to the hassle when the correct motor is available?

It's a plate-mount motor. You unbolt the motor, complete with mount plate and blower wheel, then swap the wheel and plate onto the new motor. Service manual's got more detailed directions; all my FSMs are at the office and I'm usually not in the office at almost one in the morning.

Whoah-whoah...you should not have to drill out any rivets!

Throw the Chilton's trash in the garbage can where it belongs, before it causes you to hurt yourself and/or damage your car. You really need a factory service manual. See this post and get all three books mentioned in there.

if you are about to go for another blower motor so you can have more speed/real flow choices... what can you use? eh?

the question is serious. Id like to have a REAL blower motor.... this one just seems like one trapped midget inside that black box, trying to find amusement in making blower motor noise with his farting.
