It all started with a charging problem...
My alternator was not charging the battery, so I took it off, had it tested, and bought a new voltage regulator while I was at it. Put everything back in, and the problem was still there. So, out comes the voltmeter!
The first thing I started with was checking continuity. To make a very long story short, I got continuity to Ground off the Bat wire from the alternator.

Question 1: Is it normal to get continutiy to ground from the ALT BAT wire?

This didn't make any sense to me, so I decided to trace the wires back, and find where this short was coming from. I went back to the bulkhead connector, under the dash, then back out the bulkhead connector, only to end up (something like 5 hours later) at the turn signal lights.

Question 2: What the hell is this about?

Question 3: Did I just waste an entire day chasing a red herring?

Question 4: If the answers to 1 and 3 are yes, then what should I look for next in order to fix the charging problem?

thanks,
josh

So, apparently I had a plethora of shorts in my wiring including but not limited to the turn signal lamps, the neutral safety switch, and various connecting wires in the harness that were located near hot spots in the engine bay. All have been replaced and re-checked, so hopefully I'm done with the multi-meter for a while. Though, I think that if my alternator still won't charge when I get everything put back together, my head will explode.
The upshot is that I now know for certain that my wiring is in good order, and I've learned how to read a wiring schematic. So that's good.
