i'm not sure if anybody has seen this, so i thought i'd post a link. it looks pretty interesting. i know there are cheaper ways to make the swap, but this is new stuff except for the alternator and it appears to be pretty much plug and play.

http://www.uscartool.com/

you'll have to select "dual alternator conversion kit" from the menu on the left.

That's the problem. Remanufactured = junk.

Some rebuilds last longer than others. It's no big deal- It's a light unit, takes 15 minutes to replace with the right tools, and the ammeter will indicate failure pronto- I say go for it and keep a spare in the trunk- I keep extra hoses, belts, fuel pump, water pump, starter, tools, etc. there anyway.

Suit yourself; I use quality parts that probably won't die, rather than dubious and unpredictable ones that probably will, so I don't have to keep a rolling junkyard in my trunk. (That doesn't mean I don't, just that I don't hafta! ;-) )

$149 bucks!!!!!!!!! I did the same thing with j/y parts on my slant more than 3 years ago for less than $40, and still no problems with it. I guess maybe I just got lucky.
I'd tell him to go take a dump for that price, but that's just me.[/b]

i've done it for free with stuff from a $100 parts car i bought for the disc brakes and lbp axle. like i said there are cheaper ways to do it and you don't have to buy their reman alternator. the real cheap way out is to buy an electronic regulator (standard p/n vr-1000 i think?) that swaps in place of the factory points type and you're there. the second field wire is just a ground, so you're not really gaining anything there.
the thing that i thought was nice is the wiring is all new and it plugs in. for guys with cars like my '63 valiant this is a real godsend as the wiring is brittle and needs replacing anyway.
