All though it is not a Slant Six it looks like the perfect setup for a run with a Slant Six for a Record on the flats. This thing is sweat & I thought it may interest some. There was a post somewhere talking about going for a Record in the Slant & which body would be the best. I think they nailed it here it just needs a Slant instead of a 4cly.

I thought it was a Slant until I got to looking closer.

Description of the car

"BLOWFISH"
1969 Cuda
Color: Golden Rod
Engine: Chrysler 4 cylinder hemi head
Trans: 4 speed manual gear vendors overdrive
Built for George Poteet, Salt Flat Race Car, 2006 World Record holder in the Blown Fuel Competion Coupe F, Record 255.6.

Here is the artical on the car & the event.

Well, that "Barracuda" is a blown fuel competition coupe. The body isn't even close to fitting the class I wanted to run where there is a hope of a record. What I need to know is the most aerodynamic stock slant 6 car. I don't know if an early Barracuda would be better than a late A body Barracuda due to reduced frontal area or not.

I am not sure either, but I think maybe the 68 cuda fastback may be the best. And I am sure this car is not what your after but I thought it was pretty cool that a Cuda with a 4cly took and is holding one of the records.

Gives a little hope for the possibilities. And even though they modified the front end I think they would have chosen the best body for the job. Mainly because of the roof line & rear probably. But I myself dont know. But it seems the 68 may be alittle better shaped in the front than the 66 & earlier. But the math it takes to figure all that out is beyound me, or access to a wind tunnel.

My opinion is only a guess, nothing to back it up.

Best, '66 Barracuda. Less frontal area like you mention. I think a larger frontal area will create more drag than a slightly inferior shape. Also the front end/grill is smoother and more flush to the body compared to the '64-'65 models.

Second Best, '73-'76 Duster. The roof line looks to be what would be desired for less aero drag and the front end appears cleaner than the '70-'72 Duster or the '73-'76 Dart Sport.

Third Best, '67-'69 Barracuda fastback. While the roofline may be sleek, the recessed grill has to be a handicap over the Duster.

Is less drag the desired goal? What about downforce? I doubt the '64-'69 Barracuda fastbacks will have any and maybe even have negative downforce like the '66-'67 Chargers had.

Hey Josh
Is there any record at all for a /6? If not couldnt you just go run? At least you would have the 1st record :P Then it would encourage us to go out ther and beat it, right

Cecil,

The '66 Barracuda is my best guess too. Dusters actually have a lot of drag as the air doesn't break cleanly off the back of the car, but stays attached. The sharper tail of the '67-'69 Barracuda allows the air to split off more cleanly which reduces drag and lift. I just don't know if that would make up for the smaller frontal area of the '66 Barracuda. Downforce/lift is a consideration for handling, but if the car handles acceptably it's not a big deal.

Josh is right ,,,,there is no F class record. Notice ,however , that a 225 slant would need to go 205 MPH to be competitive.

I could squeeze 110 out of the Valaint with a 170 and no other mods....and prolly drive there and back....its only 18 hours from here to B' Ville.

can anyone fax me a 170 shortblock?

( come to think of it I will just do a 105MPH pass over the Causeway with the 225 and call it a local record....Causeway is only 2 blocks from here and is 2 miles long....flat ....straight...)
