Boy I've been having some bad luck this winter... Lots of shop work and I thought I was in the clear for a while after rebuilding the rear end now it seems I have another problem... Maybe somebody can help me...

When I cold start it fires right up, runs fine for about 2 minutes, then it just goes down and down until it dies... I have to keep my foot on it to keep it going, and once it is warmed up all the way, it runs fine again, but right in the middle of the warm up is when it is the worst...

Maybe a choke problem?

Any help is appreciated...

Choke's coming off too quickly. Probably a problem with the choke modulator. Start over with one of the Electric choke kits and you should be back up and running with reliable cold starts.

Could it possibly be a mild problem of carburetor "icing"? A slight vacuum leak with the carb could cause this. My old 82 D150 would do this on cold wet mornings and just about drove me crazy trying to figure it out. After the engine heated up a little bit it would run fine.
Good Luck
Todd

That's a good point, the '73 would have had the thermostatic air cleaner setup from the factory. Make sure the flexible stovepipe duct is intact and without tears or holes all the way from the underside of the air cleaner housing snorkel to the sheetmetal "stove" surrounding the centre collector area of the exhaust manifold. Make sure the diaphragm atop the air cleaner snorkel isn't ruptured, make sure all the hoses are hooked up, see that the damper door inside the snorkel shifts to the "heat on" position when you start the engine cold.

That makes sense because it is only like that on wet mornings, not just cold...
