I just found out that Mopar is now making a aluminum housing for the old 8 3/4 rear end. I guess they are stronger and weigh in a 11lb lighter BUT they don't give the housing away. Best price I came up with was $599.99 so far. Part number is P4876445

I read that the 8 3/4" runs cooler than the Ford 9" for circle track racing, this center section aught to become popular. The price is really not too bad, but there is some setup work and you would have to resuse some old parts as it is not complete.

With the weight reduction how does it's heft compare to the 7 1/4" ?

Dave, that's a great price! I saw some discussion on another board and they were saying $895.
