Well.......the new Valaint motor is almost ready to go.....just driveshaft, shifter , hood and fluids to go.....

I add 5 litres of oil,,,,and went to check the level,,,,and oops!...I hadn t installed the tube and stick yet....

Guess what! I used a truck block!,,,,the dipstick goes through the pan!

OK OK lets not panic,,,,there is what looks to be a plug where the car tube sould go. I would need to remove the motor mount.....the plug has a funny head....or is it casting flash?

Am I drilling a hole...or removing a plug?

Sound of me running outside.

Hood slams shut.

Mine looks like a cap, I can slide my fingernail under the edge, but didn't try to pull it out.

Not sure if we've got similiar year motors (mine is a 71 or 72 truck motor) , but mine is a cap.

Good luck, hope to see you at Indy

It's just a cap. It slides in like a dipstick tube vise grips and a little caution should remove it.

In the end,,,I had to drill the sucker for a roofing screw and pull it out that way,,,,jeesh! It seemed to be made of soft stuff,,,too soft for vice grips.....easy to drill. Done....

I ran into this problem as well. We are almost done with the restoration of my girlfriends 72 scamp and I went to install the dipstick and there was no hole!!! The motor is out of a truck with a casting date of 83. It has the boss for the dipstick hole but i'm not seeing any plug.
Did the late model truck blocks have a plug or will I have to drill? I was thinking about getting a truck pan and welding the section for the dipstick into a car pan. If I do have to drill it out is there anyone that has the measurements and the correct angle so I can do it right the first time?
