Hello everyone,

I'd like to surface my cylinder head (intake/exhaust included) and my block as well.
I read somewhere that I could use a flat piece of glass or a marble (that's what we call it in French, it's a piece of marble that's perfectly flat used to measure etc etc...) and some grinding paste. I've also read elsewhere that I need some sand paper...
Well I don't know what to think anymore and first thing : wouldn't some grinding paste hurt the surface I'm grinding on? Because if it also grinds my "marble", it won't be any good!
Now about the sand paper, do I need a piece that's as big as my cylinder head? And I find that a bit strange because the sand paper isn't suppose to have the same thickness all over so it wouldn't really grind smooth, would it?

I'm trying to get theses surfaced without going to a machine shop since they were surfaced not many miles ago (though I don't know how long ago...).

I'll also try to do the same on my manifolds as a set. Should I also grind/surface the manifold to manifold sealing area?
All this manifold sealing talk scares me! I think I'm gonna order some gaskets from australia...

paste sounds like it would take forever. I think you need something more aggressive than paste. There is a post on here where Doc uses sandpaper and a flat board. The sandpaper was not the size of the head. But if things are too uneven, I would machine it.

All right Doc,
I'm gonna make a board from MDF, what do you think? What would be the straightest wood available?
I'm a bit concerned about keeping the sandpaper straight against the board but maybe it's no matter... Did you staple it or what?

Yse, I stapled the sand paper belt to a piece of furnature grade oak with a nice straight grain.
