Hey gang,

I'm removing a Slant-6 from my 1962 Dodge D100 truck. Everything is disconnected. However, there is something in the bell housing of the transmission (manual) that is disallowing the engine to come free of the transmission. My understanding is there is just a spline that goes from the engine into the tranny, yet something is still keeping the two connected. My question is "what is in the transmission that would be keeping the two intact"? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have the special bellhousing with the "low starter".
These have 2 bolt patterns, one for the V-8 and the other for the SL6.

The SL6 bolt pattern is smaller so there are a few attaching bolts on the inside of the bellhousing.
Pull the dust cover off the bottom of the bellhousing and look up between the flywheel and the face of the bellhousing for these bolts.
