Hey,
Just wondering if there is a damper I can use on my 170ci build. Like a ATI or Fluidampr. Would one for a small or big block work? Thanks

I doubt it is any different than my 225 balancer but I got mine from maddogracing.com. It is made by Romac and comes from Australia. I paid about 275$ Nice 66 I also have a 66 valiant 100, I am about 3 weeks away from completing the whole powertrain swap. Hope it helps.

I have heard of people running the big block damper, but I dont know much about how it worked out.

Dont run a fluid balancer. They where really designed for steady state running (say like a boat engine) and they have proved to give problems on the mopar.

I thing the Romac meantioned might be the best choice.

Very nice car 8) love the wheels.

A big block one will work, but it makes problems with pulley alignment.

Fisher still makes one specifically for Slants.

I too have heard of issues with Fluidampers. Broken cranks come to mind.

Another vote for nice '66. :D :D :D

Great car! Tell us more about it when you can.

The Romac is a nice piece and has been used successfully on 350 NA HP and 630 turbo HP Slants by Cameron Tilley in Oz.

Didn't Cameron have "issues" with a Fluidamper on his road race car Lou?

'Zilla,

You are correct. Broke/cracked some cranks, I believe. I have heard nothing but bad stories about fluidampers and wouldn't touch one with a 10' pole.

I don't understand how they could work anyway since there is apparently no outer ring or moving massive parts, only silicone fluid? You need some massive parts to be movable or you cannot absorb much vibration energy.

Lou

Hey, thanks for all the info. I can't find a romac for a slant 6 on mad-dogracing.com or fastengineparts.com. Not on ebay either. I'll call them tomorrow. I did find a Falcon one on e-bay though. Its a Powerbond brand and it says it covers 60-87. I didn't think the cast crank and the steel cranks used the same balancer. Any more advice? We ran a Fluidampr on our 340 (12.5-1 drag only) for about tens years until it spun a rod bearing. I guess we didn't have a problem. I won't be putting it back on though from the sounds of it.
As for my Valiant, it was my school car with the normal 4bbl, cam and headers. When the pic was taken it had two t3 turbos on it. Now it is going together with a single T61 turbo with Intercooler-Aeromotive fuel system-ported big valve head-4,000 stall-727 reverse valvebody-3.91 spooled 8 3/4. Undecided on the cam. All I really have left is the engine work and finding upper A-arms for my 73' 10" drums. Anyone have any they want to sell?

Wow! What a cool project car. :D

The cast and forged cranks can use the same balancer, but pre-'69(?) had the timing mark in a different spot.

I called mad-dog-racing and they say Romac doesn't make the damper anymore. I'll going to e-mail Romac tonight about it.

After reading some earlier posts hear on this forum (romacs balancer), i think mad dog racing doesn't know what they are talking about. Or at least the guy I talked to.
