I ordered a set of rod bearings for my car, 73 Scamp w/ the 225. The ones I got were too wide, like 1/8" too wide at least. The PO said he swapped in another /6 because the original threw a rod. Is there a way to tell what motor I have (if it isn't a 225) and what year it's from so I can get the right parts?
Maybe I got the wrong bearings, but I don't think that's the case. Other than the width, everything fit fine. The "locator" tab on the bearing fit good and that side of the bearing was located correctly, the entire "too wide" part was all on one side. The fit and everything else was good.

You have a 1977 and newer cast crankshaft 225 Slant 6
Exchange the bearings for the later set and you are good to go.

you have a Cast Crank motor, they use narrower bearings, try '80s something 225, to get the correct narrow bearings.

I would have thought the unevenness would have been centered.
This means that I will have to do some additional measuring before I narrow a set of 198 con rods to fit on a cast crank.
Sounds like I will have to take more material off of one of the sides in order to keep the bearing centered.

I appreciate the offer on the bearings, but I need a .010 set. Is the engine that's in the car now better or worse? I'm still fairly new to these cars and engines.

In theory a forged crank is stronger but unless you're using the engine for extreme service, such as racing using nitrous or a supercharger you'll never see the difference.
