Is it possible to put a forged crank in a cast crank block? I think you have to do some machining to make it work. Am I correct?

Why? The cast crank is plenty strong. What is it you need to accomplish?

Yea, the cast crank also has smaller journals and that will allow you to find rods cheap.



Remember the engine in the Mopar Muscle mag ( I believe that was the one) they made 320hp and used the cast crank.

The reason I'm interested in this is because I can get a forged crank cheaper than a cast crank, both remaned.

It will not fit though, so savings will be moot.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a steel crank block.

I've been using a Car Quest reground steel crank in my nitrous motor for years. So far, so good.

One other bit of basically useless trivia, when Mike J ran the first 10 second pass by a door car, he used a cast crank motor.

I wish you were near me you could have a forged crank block for pretty darn cheap...LOL...

either motor is fine to work with, the added benefit of the cast crank motor is the crank is quite a bit lighter than the forged crank unit, so it tends to wind up faster than the forged crank (this will be moot in day to day traffic , of course...)

I have a 77-ish block in my car. I found out when I replaced the bearings and the rod bearings were too big. I'm assuming this is probably a cast crank engine now?

Yes, the change to cast cranks was mid '76. If you got rod bearings that were too wide that would indicate the cast crank engine. I have some standard size cast crank rod bearings if you need them. Cover shipping and they are yours.
