Post subject:  Spark plug spacers

Sorry if this topic has been covered before....

I seem to remember reading somewhere the metal spacers on the spark plugs should be removed before installation on /6's, is this correct?

Is cutting them off the best way to remove?

Thanks guys!

Remove the metal ring washers when installing plugs in '63-'74 slant-6 cylinder heads. Leave them in place when installing plugs in '60-'62 slant-6 cylinder heads. Usually easiest to grasp the ring around its diameter with a pair of pliers and unscrew the plug out of the washer.

I was wondering how long that would take!

It was the slogan used to advertise the new 1960 Chrysler Valiant in (German-speaking) Switzerland and probably Germany as well. It means "Not a centimetre too long, not a kilogram too heavy!", i.e., just the right size car.

Compare the American slogan for the same car in the same year: "Nobody's kid brother!"

Just curious, why is the washer on the spark plug removed on the '63-'74 slant 6?

As compared to standard cars of the day. In other words, air craft carriers. I like the slogan. Good for you for finding that.
