Hi,

Does anyone plane the manifold mounting surface on their /6 head while it's in the machine shop? Or does this surface stay straight and true in any case?

I always take a cut on the head's manifold mounting surface, mostly to clean-up all the pitting around the water outlet.

If you have deep pitting around the thermostat cover area, clean the pits well (glass bead or sand blast) and then apply some metal filled epoxy. (JB Weld) Once cured, have that side of the head resurfaced.
