I have a '60 Valiant V200 wagon. Not exactly a commonly-seen car, and the lack of available non-mechanical parts out there such as oddly-shaped window rubber reflect how many of these cars are still out there which needs this stuff.

So I bought some NOS rubber from an eBay auction for about $68 bucks. The auction was for NOS Mopar Rear Glass Weatherstrips, and the the description gave the part number (no measurements) and advertised them as a "pair of window runs" for the LOWER tailgate of the '60 Valiant wagon.

I get them, and discover that not only are they for the upper window channel (which I still needed), but that the "pair" of window channel runs are too short and not long enough to span the width from D pillar to D pillar on the back window.

So I am wondering: would you ask the seller for $ back? What's the reasonable course of action? These are the right rubbers, but they're not long enough to do the job, and who else out there has 1960 Valiant wagon rubber? Normally, I'd just ask for my $ back, but I'm scratching my head 'cause I still need them, I just don't have enough of it.

Thoughts?

Depends what you paid for them verses the expense of sending them back and the guarantee whether you will ever see your money returned afterwards. You are the best person to judge the risk. Never hurts to make an inquiry to the seller about the problem. They (sellers) can no longer give buyers negative feedback, if that's what your worried about.

H'mm. Was this rubber material cut from a roll of stock, or was it factory-cut? If the former, perhaps the seller's willing to cut you longer pieces, if he has more stock. If the latter, you have a legitimate beef, since what you were sent does not match what was described. Bring it to the seller's attention in an informative, non-combative way, and give him the chance to let his conscience be his guide. If he gets adversarial or clams up, then report it as "item received but did not match description" dispute.

(Me, if I came across NOS tough-to-find rubber like this, I might be tempted to send it for reproduction by Steele or one of the other outfits, after comparing its cross-sectional profile to the many profiles already available from the likes of Steele, Goers, Soffseal, etc. to see if it's actually easier to get than I thought.)

Well, the seller was very nice and offered me a full refund. Darn it though...I think I may end up keeping it because the rubbber fits in a unique place. Perhaps I can do what you said Dan and compare it to something else out there, hoping that I can either find something or get someone to match it as close as possible to something existing or re-make it.
