I've been busy and missed the first go around about the OD instalation. The a 833 ? I had a 80 mod dodge P.U. years ago...was this a New Process alum. housing transmission? I thought the shifter came right out of the top cover? Anyway someone said it would be an easy swap into a B body. I have a 65 Coronet 225 3 speed...will this be an easy swap to the OD ? How easy ? Are'nt the crankshafts different from the pre 68 model year. Anyone done this swap from 80's back into pre 68 B body? I'm not exactly ready to try this but it's been in the back of my mind for a while. A friend just told me he knew where one was ( 80 dodge P.U. with broke rod)today and said I could probably get the whole thing for 150 dollars.

If it was a light duty pick-up it should have the A833OD tranny. 3/4 ton and some heavy duty 1/2 tons would have the truck tranny with the shifter coming out of the transmission.

The A833OD from a pick-up would be a much easier swap than what I did to put one in an A-body. You will likely need the bellhousing since the older 3 speed bell housing did not have a bolt pattern for the 4 spd and the OD input bearing retainer that locates the traany in the bellhousing is larger in diameter. You will need the drive shaft yoke since the 3 spd uses the smaller output shaft spline. The 4-spd is the same as the 727. You will also need the hump externsion for the floor and of course a shifter with the correct rods.

The price seems right if you can get the trans, bellhousing, flywheel / clutch, driveshaft and all the linkage.

Here is a view of the 833, look for the side cover on the front case and the 3 bolt shifter mounting "triangle" on the tailhousing, just in front of the trans mount area, if it looks like this, it will go right into the Coronet. ( use your current 3-speed flywheel )

Dave this thing with the hump extension?
Do I need to cut the floor hump out of the truck and weld it into the Coronet?

Thanks again

David,
The hole in the floor of the Coronet has to be quite large to provide clearance for the shifter and rods. The D100 I got my tranny from had just a plastic cover and boot which I do not think would work with the B-Body.

You would need to either; a) get the hump extension form a B-Body floor shift car, b) buy new from Sherman or, c) fabricate somthing yourself from sheet metal.

The A-Body required that you cut a hole from the centerline of the hump down into the floor and from the 8" or so behind the cross member forward about 18". The hump extension covered that size of a hole. B-Bodies are much smaller but it still much more significant than just cutting a hole for the shifter handle to come thru.

: Dave,

Thanks again. I think I'll do this swap but it won't be very soon. I'm right in the middle of a complete overhaul , which has led to many other things...If you know what I mean. The info that you and Doug have given me will be very helpful when the swap does become a reality.
