i have a 1983 d150 pickup with the /6 833 4speed combination
while changing to a different transmission because of gear noise
i noticed that the original trans imput shaft had been cut and there
is no hole in th crank for a pilot bearing. both trans are the same.
how do i mount the new trans to the engine without cutting it

If you're unwilling to cut the input shaft then you tear down the engine, take the crank to a machine shop and have it drilled for a pilot bearing.

Was there no pilot bearing at all? Later Magnum V8s used a roller pilot bearing the fits the torque converter pocket. Using this bearing will keep you from destroying the replacement transmission and allow the clutch to operate properly, but doesn't make space where none exists now so you still have to cut the crank or input shaft.

Moparguru,,
are you changing to a different tran of the same type? Still an 833? or to a diferent model completely. I also have an 83 D-150 with the 833, I know what you mean about gear noise.
