I have a 77 aspen that I used to drive and would like to use the slant out of it for my Valiant. I want to do it up a little bit if its a good core. I was thinking of a cam, plane the block or head(whats better?), port and polish by me, probably a 2 bbl but possibly a 4 bbl if I can get the parts. Its a reman 80 block.

It will most likely be ok. That being said you will need to keep you fingers crossed as your Mains & Rod bearings are allready at 30 under. You can go more its just tough finding the bearings. Stock type pistons and rings can be found to 60 over.
As for planeing the deck or head have the shop clean up both and then measure both and see where you are.

How do I know what the crank journals should measure?
"have the shop clean up both and then measure both and see where you are." Measure what?

Sometimes the journals dont need turned just honed. Easyest to let the shop look at it after its cleaned up. You CAN get smaller id bearing but its harder to find them.
