I tell you, the gremblins were out there. We were planning on over 30 cars showing up, but cars kept breaking down... You have seen some of those problems already, posted on this site , including mine.
But even at the race, we had Thor, Mark, Aric, and Richard that had really major problems hitting them. And Andrew (Kidd) was having problems all day. And Stephanie had to rebuild a carburetor for her newly purchased ride. It was unreal... however, we did end up with 28 cars making the first round.

I have to check my video before giving out stats on it. But Wayne Erickson was the winner with Allen Dutra as runner-up.

But other than the problems, we all had a great time. As soon as my battery is charged, I can put on some photos, that will show you all the cars that we had. Hopefully I caught a photo of everyone. There were so many racers, it was hard to keep track of who I did, and whom I didn't thake photos of. But I have video of all of them, and can take photos off of that.

Safely Home! THOR just took off for home after graciously helping me unload the trailer. Thank You THOR! :D

Time to find a pillow!

I had a marvelous time, and saw some brilliant bracket racing. I sure wish I had done a bit of it!

I posted the Hooptie's new best in the appropriate thread.

Thanks everybody! Linda and I had a wonderful weekend!

Redding was a little busy. In this shot, the Killer Bees are in Lane s 3 & 4, starting with Dan in Lane 3, in that blue van; and Allen in lane 4 in the white station wagon. You can see the rear of Lane 4, by seeing that Home Depot Orange car of Wicked Six.

More photos to come later. But that gives you an idea of what 28 slant sixes look like in the staging lanes. It made up two LONG lines.

Got home sometime close to midnight last night, up for classes now.. had a lot of fun!!! Found the hidden gremlins in my new Volare (writeup on it to come soon), yes, THOR rebuilt the carb for me Saturday night, but that wasn't the only problem - turns out the car, like me, doesn't like heat and was vapor locking causing the car to just lay down and nearly die around 50mph on the track if it was warm out, needless to say, I didn't survive first rounds! :( But now I know what to work on to get it ready for Vegas.
Off to class, more later...

SOME PHOTOS TO ENJOY:

Image

is Aric running down the track.

Image

The Bee Hive was spread all over the place. But in the thick of the bee hive, you can see that in some of these places, cars were two deep.

Image

Now that the other cars are cleared out, you can almost see how long the line was.

Image

We didn't do the cruise, but had a great BBQ at the Bee Hive.

Wow, 28 cars in eliminations - I'm impressed! Did 28 show up and all make elims?

I think that beats the previous record of 25 or 26 at Clay City.

Great job, West siders!!

Maybe we'll see some of you (and us) in Kearney, NE next Summer...

Ciao,

Lou

I listed the quarter final to the final. Here is the first round, and I hope I have all the names correct. That was a lot of people to meet for the first time.

1) Aric vs. Randy Jones - winner Aric - .084, 12.54, 104 mph
2) Rob vs. Mark - winner Rob
3) Dave vs. Glenn - winner Glenn - .048 15.61, 86 mph
4) Richard vs. Wayne - winner Wayne - 14..15, 84 mph
5) PJ and CJ - winner PJ - 16.10, 86 mph
6) Frank vs. Randy Judge - winner Randy, 17.19, 66 mph
7) Sergio vs. Andrew - winner Sergio 16.85, 75 mph
8) Tristen vs. Joshua - winner Joshua, 17.08, 79 mph
9) Paul vs. Doug - winner Doug
10) Rhonda vs Jessica (sister against sister) -winner Jessica .158, 18.87, 69 mph
11) Dan vs. Allen - winner Allen - .289, 43, 47mph - red light coast
12) Dana vs Scott - winner Dana
13) Stephanie vs. Jason - winner Jason
14) Roy vs. Tony - winner Tony

Round 2

1) Aric vs. Rob - winner Rob .109, 19.49, 68 mph
2) Glenn vs Wayne - winner Wayne .050 13.52, 94 mph (Glenn's car had problem, delaying the field).
3) PJ vs Randy Judge - winner Randy .194, 16.98, 77 mph
4) Sergio vs Joshua - winner Sergio .047, 16.91, 65 mph
5) Doug vs. Jessica - winner Jessica (Doug's car wouldn't start - vapor locked from the waiting)
6) Allen vs Dana - winner Allen .080, 18.81, 67mph
7) Jason vs. Tony - winner Jason .004, 19.67, 67 mph

And the next rounds, I already posted. I hope I got everything correct. My scratch notes are hard to read. And I see I didn't see some of the slips I should have.

But there you see the 28 names that were driving 28 cars.

And as Wayne said, look out for 2009. If we can get rid of the gremlins, we may even break this record.

Okay, I did something wrong there, to post it twice. And I don't know how that happy face got next to Tristen losing to Joshua. Honest dude, I wasn't trying to rub it in.

Well, you and Josh raced together, and this was why I tried to get pictures from everyone. However, I missed a lot of people.

Image

In the video I will me making, I was hoping to put a photo like that before every race. That won't happen on all of the raced. But that is okay. Once people see the video, they might come looking for me next time.

And in my video, I will show Josh for the winner, and show his 17.08 at 79 mph. And show that close up shot. The only problem with this photo, is Josh should have been on the top, since he was in the left lane. Oh well, I will fix that later.

Allen and I made it home just after 11:00, along with first time racer Randy J. ( the "other Randy J." ) who also lives in Sunnyvale.

I told Wayne to not schedule anymore races so close to halloween because everyone had to spend so much time chasing away Gremlins... and not the AMC kind!

I really got nailed by bad moo-jo in the second round of the points race when a track mix-up led to 15 minutes of start, stop, go forward, back-up... let this car out... (I was next in the burn box) and by the time I did a burn-out, the race car just died at staging and would not restart... that is, until I missed the round.  After it cooled, it restarted and ran fine the rest of the weekend.

OK, the beginning of the 2008 racing season, we pull the Vegas and my race car's 600 Holley decides to drop the idle circuit right before the first time trial on Friday... we "pitt thrash" the car by sticking a swap meet Eldy 750 carb onto it. Roll forward to the late rounds of Sunday's Redding race and Allen comes back to the pitts with the Dart wagon running like crap. After some trouble shooting... a dropped idle circuit on it's Holley 1920. Thanks to THOR (Rob) and Kidd (Andrew) we install a "core" BBS onto the wagon and it got us home... with pretty good MPG numbers!

Anyway, thanks to everyone who made the final Redding race and the Killer Bee Racing 2008 season a big success.
DD

I made it home about 1:25 AM this morning. I was a bit tired after leaving CJ and Linda's place at 11:20 PM, but got a second wind and got home fine.

I have to give many thanks to Sergio for hauling his '69 Dart GT to Redding and letting me race the car all weekend. The car ran great and was pretty darn consistent. I won a round Saturday in the Slant 6 points race and two rounds on Sunday. This was my 4th race of the season and the only elimination rounds I won all year. It's clear that for me bracket racing an unfamiliar automatic trans car was better than my familiar manual trans car. I did much better at the tree and had a great time.

Since the "dedicated bracket car" won't get done over the winter I'm going to put the automatic I built into my Valiant and see what I can do with the shoe box in the '09 points race.
