Hello! I rebuild my Holley 1920 and I do not know where the small ball bearing goes. When I took the carb off the car (73 Duster 198 cc) I merely laid the carb on the bench (Holley float bowl side up) removed the 4 screws and removed the float bowl cover. When I did that there was a small ball bearing rolling around loose. Per Fig 9 Pump accelerator System on the Holley 1920 Manual, I see Pump inlet check ball but still don't exactly know where it goes. Is it behind the two stage metering body? Does any one have a better pic? IS it critical I replace it?
Thanks,
Nuke463

Here is the Holley 1920 operation and repair manual (pdf) . It is absolutely necessary that every check ball be where it belongs or the carb won't work right. The ball rolling around in the bottom of your carb is probably one of the two power valve balls - look at the end of your metering block where the plastic lever arm sits, and you'll see its lower end pokes open the two metering block balls. I bet one of them (and its brass retainer ring) is missing.

Thanks, however I did check and there are 2 balls already there in the Power valve 1st & 2nd stage per fig 8A of the manual. See why I'm stumped????

Yup...there are lots of check balls in that metering block; you will have to figure out which one's missing and where it belongs. It will probably be more practicable to replace the metering block with an intact one.

Nope. They used to be, so there are a few NOS floating around, but I was thinking more in terms of installing a used metering block that hadn't yet fallen apart. It sounds like this particular '73 1920 is probably close to the point of no return (no effective rebuild).

I took apart my fuel bowl on my 1920 and there was no check ball rolling around in the bowl. The power jet valve lever has both the balls in place. My Walker kit 15519A came with a new check ball. Other than the two balls on the power jet valve lever, where else would a check ball go?

SSD said "Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download. You'll want to install a new float in your rich-running 1920, and make sure the power valve check ball hasn't fallen out of the metering block." I have two balls now, but would like to verify that all balls are there before reassembly. Any advise where to look?

Does the accelerator pump have a check ball?

I am not familiar with the Holleys.

Not always the best choice, but I called Summit Racing, ordered a rebuilt from Holley, when it came the hot idle cover was missing and was not plugged as was the one currently on my car. I robbed everything off the new one, and have the old one mounted with all new parts, thats a 200.00 dollar bill but I have a core if needed.

I also heard that Holley will sooner more than later stop the build or reman of these carbs before long. So I feel a little more aware, as my old carb had so much missing from the new one sent. Inside the fuel bowl on the lower right hand side is where some of those check balls go, the new one sent to me had the brass retaining screw come loose and at least on ball fell out. Good luck
