So, does anyone have a list of what pistons are currently availble for the slant six? I know wiesco has something out. I wanted something that was a little less skirt and a higher pin. This one will be for a 170 with 10lbs of boost.

Off the shelf forged SL6 pistons are no longer available.
I see old stock TRW forged SL6 pistons come-up on ebag every now and then but that can be a "crap-shoot" as far as price and quality goes.

If you keep the boost low, a good quality cast piston (the ones with a steel expension struts) may work for you. EngineTech is one brand that has the struts.

As for using stock 170 SL6 con rods and the shorter / lighter 2.2 pistons, you can do this if you use the longer stroke 198 crank. The longer stroke off-sets the shorter piston height.

Doug do you know the compression height for the 2.2L pistons? I'm kinda hesistant to buy cause it's like $300+ for a full set from summit. But I thought I heard that it cost Slantzilla a lot to move the pin up higher. Thanks for your input. Wes

The compression height of most 2.2 pistons is in the 1.57 to 1.59 range

At $300 a set I hope that includes rings. Last 2.2's I got from Mike were $25 each, and ring sets were another $25 each.

We actually moved the pins down on my pistons, and yes, it wasn't cheap. However, I would check with some other piston manufactureres. Diamond may be less money.

Venolia made me a set of pistons a lot cheaper than 'Zilla paid for his Ross pistons. I think it was about $400 with pins, valve reliefs, pin oilers, but no rings. They don't charge extra to move the pin either.

These 6.200" long rods I have were going to be for a stock stroke 170 with a short piston.

Thanks for all the input, part of my problem is with the fresh bore it would be more cost effective to spend the $100 and get forged to my specs, than re-bore for metric hypereuretics that don't last. The pistons under boost seem to be a cornerstone for this build. These estimates are from Summit Racing.

Hypereuretics - $300 for 2 sets of 4

The Wiseco forged (2.2 like) pistons I just got were excelleint quality. They have a nice thick head, big valve releifs and came with the rings and pins. These were part of the K1 long rod group buy so I would contact Wiseco directly and talk to them.
What size is the block at?

I don't know what the deck height is yet. I got the short block fresh machined from Joshie, I would assume it was enough to make it flat. The head can be shaved .1 and actually plan on it. The question is a better piston vs. compression. Thanks for all the companies I'll start to get the word out and contact a few. I wouldn't mind those 2.2L hypers but can't find them, I must be looking in the wrong places. However, I kinda plan on this to be my last slant bulid for this car.

It Aint Over Until I Win

Mike already said that his set will cost more than wiesco. I really don't need anything complicated, and my wants are going down really fast. I'm going to talk to Venolia since they have pistons listed and see what a basic set would cost and go from there. They have a dome setup availble to, so we'll see if I did move the pin up and shave the head I think it would be plausible and reduce some piston weight. Thanks for the input and direction, Wes
