 Post subject: Holley 1920 Carb
PostPosted: Tue Mar 12, 2002 3:59 pm
I have the above carb. on a six-slant, 225cc, 3 speed. In the process of tuning it and have followed manufacturers instructions (for Plymouth '67 Cuda) and am having a problem setting the idle speed and mixture.

What are the options for me to remove, clean and replace any parts on this carb. I would like to keep the original on the car, recommend any renovation kits for it? I have emailed Holley but would like a second opinion.

Basically I get no real increase or decrease in revs when turning the mixture screw at idle speed revs. Although Tach is fluctuating so much I can't really tell, because of the age of the engine I guess and an indication of other work to be done on engine?

Also I have noticed as pulse in the needle of the Altern. gauge. I have replaced Alternator and Voltage Regulator about a month ago?

Thanks

Thanks

Have you tried the screw with the washer behind it?? That's really your idle screw. I have a '69 Barracuda w/ 225 /6 and a Holley 1920 1 BBL. Now my carb was bad, like internally so I had to get a new one but I do suggest getting a carb rebuild kit from a local parts supplier. Car Quest had my carb rebuild kit. The mixture screw is right above the port intake to cylider number 2. I suggest turning it all the way in, then backing it out 2-2.5 turns. This is working really good for me right now and it's still running a little rich. With your idle screw (the one with the metal washer), turn it all the way to where it's not being used, then turn it to where it starts touching the carb linkage. Have a friend/spouse fire up the car and start tuning away. It took me about 20 minutes to fully tune my carb by doing this.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to email me.

Later,

Mike
