Hi all, I am preparing to rebuild a 225 /6 engine and was looking for some current part numbers.
I have 198 rods already and was disappointed that all the trw/speedpro catalogues I found did not give any piston specs. I hope someone can provide a 2.2 l piston part no. that is still currrent as mine are out date. PS: I am shooting for 10.8 compression and something other than Keith Black.

Our current build-up used the 198 rod with K-B's #KB268 turbo piston (I know you said no K-B!). Used Hastings moly rings bought direct (follow K-B's ring gap instructions!) and the pistons came through Jeg's. This piston is the higher quality unit sold under the K-B banner. With a 35cc chamber, 0.025" deck and 0.045" gasket, we got about 11:1 comp ratio. Pistons are very high quality and machined on CNC machines.

You can also check on Mopar Performance, but be prepared for sticker shock. TRW/Sealed Power has dropped many of their pistons, and it is our opinion that the Silvolite/K-B is a better product. TRW/Sealed Power has gone downhill since the big shake-up.

Also found a Sealed Power number; 533P used on 86-90 2.2 turbo motors. Used Hastings 4222 rings. Price quoted a year ago was $36-37 if they (local auto supply chain) could get them!

Paid more for the K-Bs but not unhappy.

The Stroking article has some info. and 2.2 piston p/n's listed towards the end.

At last check, Federal Mogel (old TRW) still had some remaining stock on the std. size 2.2 forged piston. (3.445)

OK, I'll bite. We have the same KB pistons ready to go into our shortblock. What's the deal with KB? Am I missing something here?

I have K-B's in my motor. It got about 15,000 miles and 450 passes put on it last year with no problems. K-B's have kind of gained a bad reputation for breaking the top ring land. This seems to be from gapping the top ring too tight. Open the top ring gap some (I think it even says to in the instructions) and they are fine. Dennis

Dennis,
Where are your top ring gaps set? (this would be good info.)
I set up a KB hypereutecnic (sp?) 2.2 / 198 rod SL6 with 12 to 1 compression a while back. I set the top ring gap at .018 and it broke a ring land. Upon disassembly the top rings were showing uneven ware so I would say they were butting.

This engine is on it's way back together, this time with TRW forged pistons and more ring gap.

Doug, if memory serves me correctly, they are at .022". Was that 12-1 motor with the 2.2 flat tops? Those are now $20 each from MP. Dennis
