Easy on me, I'm really new at all this, My son and I have acquired
a beautiful 73 dart w/Slant 6. Looking to carb with carter BBD and
have got a old BBD and a manifold. Looking for a carb kit but there
is no Part# tag on the carb. Also I need some help reconfiguring the
linkage - throttle and kick down - for the auto trans. Searched a lot of
web, and have the Carter BBD manual. Anyone got a pic of the
linkage setup for a slant with a two bbl and an auto? or know which
carb kit and where to go for it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx

take some pics of your carb.

Your carb should be either of those carter BBD's on the bottom

I'd like to post an image of the BBD carb and of my
Dart, but being new, again I must say I'm rreally new!
Reading FAQ did not help. The BBD does not have the
Accelerator pump in the center of the bowl as I saw on
one of the two BBD's you showed.

Again any help is appreciated.

Yes, exactly from what I can tell. Any Idea on the carb kit.
Gee, thanks again for the Pic of the linkage, I figurdd
I would have to manufacutre as block to convert the horzonal
linkage to a parallel linkage, and this will certainly help.
Unless.... you have one you'd like to sell ?....

You're great, thank you for helping me.

Go to Napa and order a kit for a 1978 Volare station wagon with a 225 and a Carter 2bbl. Then go buy a Lokar cable style kickdown linkage for a Chrysler 904 transmission.

Welcome on the board! You'll want to get a factory service manual and one or both of the other books described in this thread (depending on your experience level working on cars of this vintage) as quickly as possible. Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download.

You'll want a Walker brand kit (number 151068) for your carburetor; they are by far the best mass-market kits available. There are a few different ways to handle the kickdown issue. A Lokar cable is one way to do it, but many users report hassles getting it installed and correctly working. Less hassle using later factory parts; see this thread for kickdown options. Another way to skin the cat is to make your own parallel-2bbl intake manifold (pdf) out of a 1bbl intake. That way the existing linkage will hook up with only rather minor adaptation. You may also want to do the fuel line mod and install one of the adjustable electric choke kits.

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. Don't forget this engine needs periodic valve adjustment.

Dan, Is there a clearer image of that intake mod article? That looks pretty easy to do, but clear pics would be nice.

It's in Slant-6 News #32. Unfortunately, my copy is in Denver, my homebase is in Toronto, and I'm in Seattle! Perhaps someone else with a copy of SSN#32 can rescan it at higher resolution.

What are we doing here? See (in order) this, this, and this. There is a great deal of deferred repair and maintenance work being done on/in/around the house; I'm choreographing it and we're doing a huge lot of overdue cleanup all in prep for the memorial service on June 7. We put in a new dishwasher (replacing the 60-year-old original that hadn't worked in many years and was seldom used when it did) and have been systematically dishwashing everything in the kitchen.

We're here til June 16, with substantial holes in availability. It's still not going to be enough time; I wish we lived here. Where's Black Diamond?
