For all you folks who thought about coming, you missed a great race. We hope this will grow for next year. We had 8 cars in eliminations, our 9th had to leave early.

There were 3 other guys with Slant cars watching and we hope they will get up some gumption and race next year.

Seymour put on the fastest car show with a bunch of 12.0-12.2 runs and a runner up spot. Two brave souls came from CA, and one of them won the race - Sergio Gonzales. Big congrats to Sergio! (See other Kearney thread for Chris' pictures.)

Glen Terry and Mike Jeffrey were the favorites to win and both went out in the 1st round. Ron Parker and Ron Hamby owe me beers...

Neal and I put over 20 passes on my ol' '68 Dart. Seymour paid out $500 to Sergio for being from >900 miles away and winning the race, and Dennis Schumers paid $100 to Seymour for putting out Mike J in the 1st round. I was happy to win a round and get my points total to 75 this year.

Glen said he would have bought Norm's Challenger if he'd have brought it  so bummer for Norm... :x

I was very happy to meet some new Slanted family members from the midwest and CA. Attendee/racers:

Dennis Schumers (Chicago)
Mike Jeffrey (Lexington, NE)
Seymour Pederson (Twin Cities)
Mike and Robin Evans (Mason City, IA)
Sergio and Joe Gonzales (CA)
Glen Terry and Joe (Oroville, CA)
Chris and Becky Rathmann (St. James, MN)
Lou Madsen and Neal Hines (Blacksburg, VA and Minneapolis, MN)

Slanted spectators:

George from Omaha
Phil and Pam Stier from Omaha (with gorgeous 225-powered '41 Plymouth)
Gene and Shane from Kansas City, Kansas

See ya on the track!

Lou

We vacation-less, new hire, knuckle draggers are really jealous!

Congratulations to everyone that attended! By the looks of the names present, that was a tough field of contenders!

Hope everyone has a safe trip home,

CJ

Hey Lou, how about that salad?

For anyone that wasn't there, the evening before we had a gathering at Pizza Hut. (a tradition started at Clay City years ago) The gathering is every bit as much fun as the race itself. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hey guys, had a great time in Kearney. Many thanks to everyone who oranized the get together. Was it hot though!! (sat)
I just got back today about an 1 1/2 hour ago. Took the scenic way back to Springfield NE. {found a few treasures on the way back}.
Think I'll plan to be there next year and will enter race this time. I busted a leaf spring last week and didn't have time to fix or else I probably would've entered race. [Would've been a strange sight to see a W150 going down the track] Next year will bring more stuff only on the back of trailer. maybe slant powered duster to race. :) :) Hey we need more people from the mid-west states. Will recruit some I guess.

Way to go Killer Bees...Sergio was our back up plan to win if for some reason Glen went out early. Good going Segio for winning the first and I hope many future annual races between our teams. Let's do this again next year...

Wow. Becky and I left the track Sunday after the TnT (about 12:30ish) and arrived home at midnight. I am beat! We did some site seeing along the way... I think I should have just drove the 7 hours home instead of turning it into a 11 1/2 hour tour of the midwest

WE HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN IN 2010!!!!

I think that a bunch of us who really pushed for this event were alittle disapointed in the turnout but impressed by the few that traveled beyond what a sain person would travel for an event  . You don't need a "race car" to join in on the fun. Theomahomoparguy and 62 alum (with Shane) had a blast just hanging out and watching. I brought the slowest car (20.0 dial in). I drove down with Dart270 (and Neil) 7 hours, made 9 TnT runs, and eliminated in the first round (to the eventual winner!). We converted a existing slant guy (the '41 Plymouth) to join in on our event but he had to leave before eliminations. I am sure he will be there next year!

So no excuses next year! Hell, you don't even need to bring a slant car ( ) to watch... just show up!!!! If you have a slow slant like me, race it! If you break it we'll help you fix it!!

(Oh ya, on the way to the track. About a mile away, I had a flat tire. I called Neil and Lou and within minutes they came to the rescue with the one thing I forgot to pack. A jack. Everyone is soooo helpful. Except for the tire shops. It took me 4 or 5 shops to find a 13" tire  So if you are traveling in a car with a "rare" size anything you may want to make sure you bring something better than a spare that holds air  )

One thing Lou forgot to mention, Ryan showed up on Sunday with his low 11 second turbo car. He had some issues with hose clamps and A/F mixtures but damn, that thing is fast. As Mike J. said after Ryan gave a rundown on costs; "your gonna piss alot of people off"

Didn't mean for this to become a journal  Becky and I had a blast!!

Good work and well done to everyone that made it to this event... from another "vacationless, new-hire". (I am already 4 vacation days "in the rears" at my new job. :x

I hope next year brings better "timing" and more vacation days so I can work this race into an already busy Summer..

Well got home at 7;00 pm after leaving Kearney at 5.;00 pm,only 4 hours of stopped time ,having a co driver helped a lot. This was a great time ,very nice facility and well run. Mike J was a great host making sure everyone was accomodated. A great group of guys and very good racers. I think now that the first one is in the books it can only grow. Thanks Mike for all your efforts and Seymour for the long distance money,I almost pulled out due to slow cash flow .Hope we can do it again next year.Ps I never considered myself the underdog so i will place a bounty on my head for next year, come and get some. Thanks also for the wives and spectators for their sopport and comraderie.

Still haven't heard what happened on Sunday. Can one of you who was there tell us about it?

On Sunday we tried to help Mike out as he was #3 in points ,so Glen and I attempted to line up with 1and 2 but couldnt do it becouse they pull the cars out at ramdom. We had 4 slanters Glen,Mike J,MIke E and myself. I put a .015 on a 12.20 chevelle and won easily on the brakes ,the other 3 went out first ruond but bought back in. Second round they paired me up with Mike E and i had another good light and he slept a little ,off the throttle early. Glen won ,dont know the details and Mike J i think gave up the stripe and the other guy was good. Then i have to race Glen,My last three runs sunday looked like duplicates and i was on to the tree,so what do i do,left so early i am not sure if the tree had come down, big time senior moment . so glen goes to the semis, dials 16.33 runs 16.328 on the brakes .the other guy 13.33 runs 13.329, and that is the end of the story
