A guy over on FABO is doing the usual slant to small-block swap <yawn>, but one of his excuses for doing so is that (he claims) that the slant puts too much weight on the passenger side and upsets handling:

Have you early A guys ever noticed this? I would've thought the driver (if not the intake and exhaust manifolds) would more than offset this. And why wouldn't a V8 with driver not be out of balance the other way? Just wondering...

That is just the most ______[insert your favorite slang or non-PC terminology here] thing I have ever heard of in a while. (note; short while 'cause I like to hang out at the truck stop). As soon as you sit down in the car I'm sure the average 170 lb guy would counter act any weight bias that exsisted. It would be interesting if some real world info could be attained as to the actual weight bias (if any) that might be caused by the slant. I'm sure it would not amount to much. [just guessing]

Tell'im it's done that way intentionally, to offset the tendency of the right rear to spin first.
If he doesn't buy it ask'im about the muscle car V8 offsets, then tell'im they were only copying the original slant idea.
Sorry, couldn't pass that one up.

Yes, there actually is a slight weight bias right (I've forgotten the exact amount I found). Even so, I still had to move our dragster's engine two more inches right to balance out the traction. So it doesn't amount to much, even in a light car.
Doesn't have a noticable effect in my street toad.

One of the road racers on the board'll likely have the numbers you want.

Mis-information on web bulletin boards is a huge problem. In this case just ignore this individual (the guys I detest are the ones spreading mis-info in an attempt to sell their own crap).

On a positive note one of the reasons this board is great is that it is well monitored for basic B.S. like this.

I'm not so worried about the misinformation part. It just sounds like another "V8 swap guy" trying to further justify his swap. If you want a V8, go with a V8. Seems like everyone else does. One thing I've learned over the years is that a V8 swap covers up a lot of inability to properly TUNE an engine...

My 64 and 68 Darts are nearly perfectly balanced, side-side, with me in the car (175 lbs). I have corner weight scales. Actually, both cars have a bit more on the left with me in there, so a V8 will be worse.

If it hasn't been done yet I hope someone buys a 440 powered Mopar and yanks the bent 8 in favor of a leaning tower of power. It will help balance the Mopar karma.

I removed a 360 from my 66 Cuda, and installed a 170, does that help?

A long time ago...
I took the 170, 3-on-the-tree combo out of my 63 Dart wagon and installed a 340, 6-pak, 4-speed.
5 years later and 2 engine rebuilds on the SB, I removed the 340 "tri-power" and replaced it with a 225 SL6. The car was a rock-solid daily driver from that point forward.
I guess this is a "wash" from a Mopar karma point of view.

I did not give-up on bent 8s at that point but realized that a SB is not all that great for making the tire smoking power I wanted. Instead of living with a "compromise car", I purchased a second car... 1968 B'cuda fastback with a 440 4-speed.
That was a "crazy fast" street car... and "off balance", it was totally nose-heavy.

So, to each their own... but it's funny how "been there, done that" is the way most humans learn about how things work in the real world.
