My 1980 Aspen is dying of frame rot and I have a buddy who has an 80's Diplomat with the 318 removed. I want to transplant the 111k motor. Is there a thread on performing this transplant? Can I "bolt-up" the slant to this transmission? Is there a way of using the V8 K-frame? What about the exhaust? I've done a couple of slant to slant transplants but no slant to V8....any experiences? So happy this site is back.....great follower of "slant6.com"...miss it dearly. Thanks in advance, Chris

I am not sure what you are asking, but I will take a stab at it.

It sounds like you want to swap the slant six in your Aspen into the Diplomat? Assuming this is the operation you want to do:

(1) the v-8 transmission will not bolt to your slant six motor with an adapter plate

(2) the k-frames are swappable by removing the four bolts that hold the entire k-frame and suspension to the frame rails forward of the firewall.

(3) you cannot easily put the slant on the v-8 k-frame

(4) the exhaust from the Aspen will swap right over onto the diplomat

In my mind, the easiest thing for you to do would be pull the engine and tranny form the Aspen, swap k-frames with the Diplomat, and put the engine and tranny form the Aspen into the Diplomat. Even easier would be to find a cheap good 318 in a junkyard and drop that in.

Thanks Reed,

That's what I'm talking about. I was hoping the transmission could be used but could pull that with the engine. I thought there might be slant to V8 k-frame motor mount adaptors...in my dreams. Putting a used 318 would make most sense. I may try some weld surgery on the frame and see if that'll get me through the safety certificate. Gonna crawl underneath this weekend and assess. Thanks again.

a buddy and I just welded some plates to the slant k frame and somehow made things work when we put the 318 in. i couldn't tell you how or what without looking at the car, and its across town right now. but if you set the motor down in there, things can make more sense.

Take the V8 K frame out and offer it for a swap to someone who wants a small block in his slant car. I bet you would get some quick offers to trade(maybe with some cash to boot).

PS FABO comes to mind or Craigslist.

The V-8 k-frame from the Diplomat won't fit an Abody. The K frame will only fit other F/M/J bodies (Aspens, Volares, Diplomats, Gran Furys, Imperials[81-83], Cordobas [81-83], LeBarons [78-83], Caravelles [pre-83])

However, the F/M/J body k-frame is popular with older truck owners. They use it to weld onto the front frame rails to get the independent front suspension and disc brakes. You might try selling it on www.sweptline.org

The very best alternative would be to save your Aspen from being squeezed into a little metal brick. Check out 2 pages of F-body rust repair parts at autorust.com. They also have a pdf catalog, with parts and useful info on rust repair. Be sure to order their "I saved a Mopar" sticker too!

Actually, I called Schumaker a couple years ago and they sell no kits to mount s six cylinder motor on an eight cylinder k frame. Losers.
