I would like to swap a A-833-OD into my 65 dart. It currently has a 3 on the tree. Will any bell housing 1975 - 1987 fit my 65 225 slantie?
Other then removing the 3 on the tree stuff do I need to do anything else to the floor? I know a guy that has a few od transmisions out of slant 6 trucks and volares. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Shad G 65 dart

any /6 bell will bolt but make sure its an OD as the front bearing retainer centering hole is like 5 1/4" diameter(the biggest of them all).
i.ve heard you can put the bearing retainer in a lathe and turn it down if you cant find an OD bellhousing.

alot of the later 70's bells are drilled with both the 3 and 4 spd tranny bolt patterns.

I don't think you can turn down the bearing retainer as it would interfere with teh bolt pattern. Besides, you are better off getting the later model al bell housing

I made this swap on my 68 Barracuda.

The input bearing retainer on the OD trannies is much larger than the other trannies. You would be best off to locate a 6 OD tranny bell housing.

The floor needs a BIG hole cut in it then covered over with a hump extension. The hole is about 18" long and goes from the center line of the hump down into the floor. If you can visualize it the 1/2 and 3/4 shifter rods are actually inside the car compared to the profile of the orignal floor. Anyway, you can make a hump extension or easier is to cut one from a 67-76 A-Body
or purchase one new (they are advertised in the Mopar rags). These will likely needs some level of modification to work in your 65.

If you go to the later bellhousing, I don't think the torque shaft pivot lines up, so then you have to make some kind of a bracket for that. I went a different route. I took a big frt brg retainer and turned it down, and then took an early(63-66) 4spd bellhousing and bored it out to fit the turned down retainer. Problem solved.
