Hey, back again.
Got my super six all hooked up and running pretty good, but I have a few questions... Does anyone know a quick, easy way to tune the Carter 2 BBL? Also, I have had to plug some vacuum ports on the carb that weren't being used, I am not sure which ports are exactly for what and I cant find the info anywhere. What ports do I plug the vacuum gauge to? Is it worth it to keep the vacuum amplifier and all those lines or plug them up? Also the kickdown seems to be not working properly ater Ive tried to adjust it back and forth. Even with all these little problems I can still see a big diffrence with the 2 bbl instead of 1. Im slowly getting it all perfect! Oh yea: I set the timing to 0-TDC and it seemed to help but the vac advance moved it way off when its plugged up, is that normal?

It's normal if the idle speed screw is cranked in too far. The dist vac adv line is connected to the port that is just above the butterfly at curb idle. When you begin to accelerate, the butterfly begins to rotate and uncover (and expose the port to manifold vacuum) the vac advance port in the bore of the carburetor. Try advancing the dist to like 10 deg BTDC, and then adjust the curb idle to like 750 rpm. Then try tweaking the mixture screws for the fastest rpm. Go back and forth between the three adjustments until you get the steadiest idle(somewhere around 800 rpm) at the smallest throttle opening. You'll need to road test it to find the highest initial spark advance you can run without pinging.
There should be a fitting in the intake manifold, for tapping into with your vacuum guage.

Sounds like you are plugging the Vacuum advance into manifold vacuum, not ported vacuum.
You will need to correctly ID the various vacuum ports at the base of the carb. Below is a link to a page showing this info for the Holley 2 bbl.

You can use a vacuum gauge to test for the correct port, at low idle, this ported vacuum source should have no vacuum reading and then "jump-up" to full vacuum when you crack-open the throttle.

Get some additional initial advance timming into the setting and make sure the machanical and vacuum advance is working correctly and that old SL6 will really "wake-up"!

There is lot's of general carb adjustment information in the choke adjust article.
