i'm having some trouble with my 4 speed manual trans.
first off, i had the clutch replaced and adjusted.
i changed the fluid
when the truck is off it goes thought the gears fine.
when the truck is started 1-4 are very very firm to put into gear.
reverse grinds and has to be slammed in to be engaged.
i'm thinking its my pressure plate or throw out bearing.
i wanted to get some more opinions on this before i take it apart.
i would really appericate any insight at all. the 4 speed is behind my slant and everyone on this forum has always helped me alot.
thanks
-frank :D

It sounds like the clutch is not releasing completly, does it shift OK with the engine off?

and reverse grinds.
when i drive it and i come to a stop the trans falls into first gear right away very smoothly.

I agree with Doug. Check to see that your clutch is releasing all the way.

Are you putting your foot to the floor on the clutch?
how much pedal travel at the top of the throw do you have?
you may be able to adjust your way out of this predicament, though it is entirely possible you have a faulty pressure plate.

i played with it a little bit and its adjusted all the way out. im think thats a sign of failing pressure plate.

Pull the inspection cover and take a look at the pressure plate "fingers"...
If one is lower then the others, you have a bad p. plate.
While your "inspecting"... have someone work the clutch peddle while you look-over the linkage, any looseness or sideways deflection will need attention.

Never know, It may have a lifetime warranty? A lot of stuff goes. My opinion after replacing 3 Master cylinders , with lifetime warranty, is that sometimes it is better to pay a little more and have less headaches.
