So what is the standard piston negative deck height on the very early 70's 225's? The average seems to be .160" down in the hole. Does that sound about right?

Yes, that is about right... but measure your actual engine to find your exact height.
I have see some engines go as deep as -.210 and some right at -.140.
Most are in the -160 to -.180 range.
Bottomline, actual static comprssion ratios were "all over the map" with a factory SL6.
